The CityFitness Burnside project came to light through a Christchurch architect who linked Coresteel with a developer who sought an innovative design-build for a renowned national tenant, CityFitness.
The Objective: Setting a New Benchmark for Health Clubs
The client's vision was clear: craft a design that would pave the way for future CityFitness health clubs. Our dedicated design team dove deep into the planning phase, ensuring every facet of the commercial steel building was tailored to suit CityFitness's unique business needs and to address the site's inherent ground challenges.
Overcoming Ground Challenges: Geotechnical Innovations
Given the site's history, enhancing its geotechnical properties became imperative. Our approach involved installing vibro stone columns, a technique where a down-hole vibrator injects gravel pillars into the ground, displacing rock and forming high-density stone columns. This fortified the soil matrix, crucially reducing the risk of liquefaction — a poignant concern given the memories of the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes.
Detailed Fit-Outs: Prioritising Members' Experience
CityFitness's brief highlighted the need for meticulous toilet and washroom layouts, ensuring optimal service for health club members. The minimalist Coresteel Buildings DonoBeam® steel structure, paired with our insulated Conqueror PIR roof panel, guarantees durability and heightened indoor comfort.
