The expansion of this 1,162-square-metre factory in Christchurch required a remarkable level of collaborative pre-planning involving Coresteel's project managers, engineers, architects, and local council authorities. These initial discussions played a crucial role in expediting the approval process, ensuring swift council consent for the design.
Mastering Complexity: Challenges in Close Quarters for Industrial Steel Building
The location of this project posed distinct challenges. The new extension was situated in close proximity to three existing buildings while the site possessed challenging geotechnical conditions. Furthermore, the steel building design had to meet rigorous heavy-loading provisions with a high-spec completion that would immaculately showcase the client’s cladding product.
Crafting Excellence in Industrial Construction: Innovative Elements
The construction brief included installing two widespan gantry cranes with precise clearances to accommodate a two-storey front office. The office design blended striking architectural cladding with an elegant louvred balcony, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
Ensuring a seamless connection between the extension and the existing structure demanded careful execution. Achieving this required modifying the fire report to ensure compliance with building safety standards.

After considering the numerous complexities, Coresteel Buildings Canterbury developed a detailed design-build methodology to eliminate risk to the neighbouring buildings, minimise RFI matters and streamline the construction timeline.

In this particular project, our team of experts meticulously engineered and fabricated the steel structure using the DonoBeam® portal system. This approach enabled the client to achieve a superior industrial factory that effortlessly met demanding heavy loading requirements, all while maintaining structural integrity.
